Questions people would probably ask:
Hey Viet, why are we calling it a pseudo-schedule? Why not just schedule?
- An actual schedule implies that there will be a uhc game every two hours, which is unrealistic and overbearing for players who do play uhc but not all the time.
- The pseudo-schedule is a way of saying that the auto announcements will encourage players to check out the gamemode, but then later determine whether a game would occur based on the number of players in uhc at the time of opening. Its not a set-in-stone appointment, but rather a suggestion to play at that time.
- Think of it as an open-invite that occurs every 2 hours.
Hey Viet, whats the difference between the server announcing uhc and the players asking for a uhc?
- Players will ask irregularly, like once every 5 minutes if they are bored enough, and this can be seen as irritating and spammy.
- By having the server announce uhc for us, it has the effect of being more event-like, and people will join out of curiosity.
- The 2 hour automation also has the added effect of being predictable. Regular uhc players will know to wait for the 2 hour mark, so that they can play against more players, rather than have to pester chat to join and most likely get none.
Hey Viet, would players still be able to run their own uhc games outside this pseudo-schedule? And if so, what is the point of having the announcements in the first place?
- Of course players can still call for a uhc whenever they want, and if a uhc occurs, it will take priority over the announcements so as not to cause confusion.
- The real aim of the pseudo-schedule is to not only aid in bringing players to uhc at the specified time, but to also reduce the amount of player-called uhc in favour of simply waiting for when a uhc would be almost guaranteed to happen without their input.
- Eg. The host player knows that uhc will be announced at 12pm (then 2pm, 4pm etc). Rather than ask for a uhc at 11am and get rejected every 5 minutes, they can wait until 11:50am and simply join, knowing that others would have seen the announcement.
Hey Viet, whats wrong with the interface? It looks alright to me.
- Anyone who asks this is probably a veteran who has played uhc a few times already and is used to the current setup. It's guaranteed that at one point you had to instruct others how to pick a team and a kit.
- If for example there are only new players in the uhc, they need to be able to set up a uhc without veteran assistance, and the current uhc, hidden behind the chat wall and with options all over the place, is not newbie-friendly enough for this yet.
- If the gui was shaped like the /help menu, and automatically opens upon joining uhc, that would be a good start.
